Mr. Handyman “Spotlight” on Spring!
The spotlight is shining brightly on Mr. Handyman in 2005! Besides having been included in the 77th Annual Academy Awards® Gift Basket at this year’s Oscar Ceremonies, Mr. Handyman was also named by Entrepreneur Magazine in its January 2005 issue as the No.1 ranked franchise concept in the handyman/home repair category and has once again been highlighted on the Oprah Winfrey Show!
Many homeowners in Morris County have found that it’s almost impossible to find a qualified, trustworthy, fully insured person willing to work on projects in their home. In addition, it’s even more difficult to find someone that is available in the immediate future, and who would treat their home with care and respect. The Mr. Handyman concept was created to address this very need. It’s a unique home improvement service.
At Mr Handyman, the focus is on customer service, technician skills and building a long term relationship with each customer. All of their work is guaranteed! All employees are tradesmen and each office carries all of the proper insurances; General Liability, Workman’s Compensation, Bonding and Commercial Vehicle Insurance on their vans. The Tri-County and Greater Morristown offices are both registered with the NJ State Home Improvement Contractor’s Office and comply with the new 2005 state licensing requirements. Visit the NJ Office of the Attorney General at www.njconsumeraffairs.com for more information on the new mandatory Contractor’s Registration Act and how it protects homeowners in New Jersey. Have any questions before, during, or after your service? Mr. Handyman runs a full time office Monday through Friday. You always have someone to address your questions and respond to your service requests.
This year homeowners throughout our state experienced an especially tough early spring with heavy rain storms causing much damage. The following is a list of the top requested spring repairs. Use this list for guidance when assessing weather’s effect on your home or business.
Decks: Look for loose or rotted wood. Now is a great time to
clean and reseal your deck for a summer long season of
enjoyment
Gutters: Cleaning and repair. This was a very rough Winter and many gutter repairs had to be put off because of the heavy snow. Homeowners are now in need of repairs on their gutters and leaders.
Masonry, Steps and Side Walks: Brick, cement, pavers, etc… Now is the time to clean, power wash and repair these areas.
Ø Siding and Wood repair: The exterior of a home is vinyl siding, brick, stucco, aluminum siding or stone and all of these materials need repair. There is also a lot of wood on any home. When wood is exposed to moisture it rots and must be replaced. Boards, soffits, and window sills are the most common problem areas.
Ø Painting: Peeling and chipping, on a variety of surfaces (wood siding, foundations, trim, etc…), exterior and also interior.
Ø Weatherproofing: This does not only apply to the colder weather. Lower cooling costs can be maintained by providing a barrier between the inside of the home and the outside. Keep the warm air where it belongs and the cool air in its place. Caulking around windows and doors should also be inspected.
Ø Doors and Windows: Exterior doors may warp due to moisture. There are also often problems with door handles, locks and deadbolts that are too loose or too tight. Repair glass panes in windows and all screens. Caulk areas that need it. Also, now is the time to install new screen/storm doors and to open those windows that are stuck shut!
Ø Fences: Wood, metal, and vinyl…they all need repairs from time to time. Pool area fences need to be maintained to insure safety.
Ø Air Conditioning: Spring is the time many homeowners install their window A/C units. Many people decide to switch from that old wall unit to a central air system. This can include removing the unit and closing up the opening, the interior finishing and paint and exterior repairs and siding.
Ø Caulking: Caulk is a barrier that keeps out moisture. On windows it keeps water from destroying walls, sills and floors. If caulking is cracked, moldy or just plain missing, it should replaced.
Ø Wall and Ceiling repair: Drywall repairs are needed for a variety of reasons: The big one this spring is water and ice dam damage. Other drywall repairs we come across are that chairs are backed into walls, the doorstop broke and now there’s a perfectly round hole made by the door knob, damage done by children and pets, and holes from the plumbing repairs, etc.
Ø Trim and molding: Some molding is intended to protect walls from abuse and needs to be periodically replaced. Many homeowners need assistance installing new or replacing outdated or damaged molding.
Ø Counters and cabinets: Not everyone can afford a complete overhaul of a bathroom or kitchen. Typically counters take the most abuse and are the first to be replaced. Counters and cabinets can easily be replaced without an expensive remodeling job.
Ø Shelving, closets and handrails: Homeowners are always looking to add shelves in an odd corner or even build a storage closet to help organize clutter. Handrails in a hallway, stairway or bathroom can also be installed in no time.
Ø Clean-ups: Many customers need to cleanup and ready the exterior areas of their homes; such as patios, pool side and BBQ areas, gazebos, breezeways, sheds and garages. Whether it is actual cleaning, or reorganizing, assembly of patio furniture, etc. Customers want these areas ready for the warm weather!
