Like Father, Like Son

When it came time for Bob Palmarozza to decide exactly the direction of his future, his choices were many. Bob holds a degree in Marketing from Farleigh Dickinson University, graduating Cum Laude. He also worked as a Corporate Chef for Prime Hospitality Corporation for 10 years in various restaurants through out the NY, NJ and P.A. area.  His third avenue of experience was growing up in the Construction Industry, or as Bob puts it “I grew up with saw dust in my nose”.

Bob’s Dad, Andy Palmarozza was a General Contractor for over 40 years in Northern New Jersey and Ocean Counties. The elder Palmarozza’s company Crestview Builders built 100 homes in Morris County alone, the majority located in Morris Plains and Rockaway. He began his career in commercial construction and soon expanded into residential land development, as well.

His first homes were small “starter homes” in White Meadow Lake. Andy’s wife Joan fondly remembers. “Andy built for the young couple starting out in life. He felt that EVERY child should have a yard to play in”. As his business grew so did his homes. Bob and his brother spent many summers working with their Dad, at construction sites from Sussex County to Ocean. Bob remembers, “Each summer I would spend working in a different area of construction. I started out carrying bricks with the general labor force. As I got older I worked summers with my Dad’s masons, carpenters and plumbers. I think that I could build a house on my own when I was twelve!”

When Bob graduated from Farleigh he toyed with the idea of going into business with his Dad, but decided to take a different opportunity. For 16 years Bob worked  within the Hospitality Industry. On September 11, 2001 Bob was VP of Food Service at  Venator Corporation, located in the Woolworth Building in NYC and commuting through the World Trade Center every day. “That day made me rethink my entire life. It was only by an act of god that I was not in those buildings at the time they collapsed”.

Andy passed away in September 1998. “My dad’s philosophy was that you should always love the work you do and I was at the point that I needed to rethink what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

In March 2002 Bob and his wife Susan changed gears in their lives and opened Mr. Handyman Tri-County. Mr. Handyman, based in Ann Arbor, Mich., is a nationally-branded service franchise that caters to a potential market of 100 million U.S. homeowners and commercial customers requiring property maintenance and repairs. As the sister company to Molly Maid, Inc., homeowners all over the country feel they can rely on this well-known brand to introduce only bonded and well-screened workers into their homes to complete any repair or maintenance task!

“I do not think I have ever seen Bob happier”, Susan continues, every “once in awhile he will ask me “Do you think my Dad would be proud of what I’m doing?” Without a doubt, yes!”
